Sykes boats boast the highest quality composite structure. Hulls are formed utilizing the honeycomb sandwich method. The lightest and stiffest core available, nomex honeycomb, is faced either side with skins of Aramid, Kevlar cloth and carbon fibre for reinforcement.
Composite laminate is then cured under vacuum pressure at elevated temperatures. The result is a product with is both lightweight and rigid, able to withstand the greatest torsional pressure exerted on the hull during the rowing stroke.

Our ultimate boat is our honeycomb carbon  construction built to the FISA minimum weight standard.  Shells are supplied with either standard alloy riggers or our alloy wing rigger. Back stays are supplied for riggers and adjustable rake and height stretchers are fitted. Rowing shoes to the nominated size are included. These boats are built to the most exacting standards and are the number one choice for elite athletes.

Honeycomb Kevlar Carbon reinforced boats are built to the same standards as our ultimate boats, but in a blend of  carbon and Kevlar skins. These boats will weigh in the vicinity of 5% over the FISA minimum weight limits depending on options selected

Glass honeycomb constructed boats are made to be within a about 10% of the FISA minimum weight. These boats are extremely durable and strong and are probably the best boat for the non elite athlete looking to row in a comfortable but still highly competitive boat that will last a long time. These boats come with conventional alloy or stainless steel riggers, adjustable slides, fully adjustable clog type foot stretchers or shoes if specified and bearing wheel seats. These boats are highly sought after in many Australian School programmes.

Reinforced Fibreglass construction boats are extremely robust and can withstand  rough handling and wear and tear of beginners and learn to row programmes while at the same time being very competitive boats. Boats are heavier than all other constructions but their durability and ease of repair by someone with basic knowledge of fibreglass skills make them highly sort after boats

In all of our boats we have at least 5 different mould sizes or shapes to suit the various ranges of athlete sizes, weights and abilities enabling us to offer boats genuinely built  to exactly suit your requirements.
