Single Scull Designs PDF Print E-mail

We offer five different hull choices in our single sculls depending on the weight and style of the sculler.  Our shapes have evolved over a number of years through discussion with top scullers along with our own rigerous testing.

Mould 19

This boat has a semi-circular hull shape that was designed by Jeff Sykes many years ago but with its proven record it continues to be used by many of Australia’s top lightweight scullers.  A similar timber shape was used by Peter Antonie to win the 1986 World Championship and a heavyweight version was used by Peter in Vienna 1991 (4th place).  This shape is very popular with both Lightweight Men and Women.

Mould 20 "Sykes Ultimate"

This boat was designed in 1993 and has the least "wetted surface area" a scull can have (hence the name).  The boat is available for weights ranging from 57kg to 85kg.  Scullers seem to either love or hate this boat.  This boat is the hull of  first personal choice of Jeff Sykes but it takes a little more skill to steer it especially in crosswinds.  This boat was used by Rebecca Joyce to win the 1995 World Championship and Amy Safe to win Gold in the Junior Championships in 1994.

Mould 26 "Sykes Ultimate II"

This boat is the same as the above mould 20 boat except we have altered the stern 1.5 metres to a slightly more traditional shape with less camber.  This alteration has slightly more drag in theory but gives a traditional feel and look to the performance of the hull in the water.  The boat is available for weights ranging from 59 to 80kg and is currently our number one seller in its weight range.

Mould 25

This boat suits a weight range of 80 to 100+kg.  The boat is very similar in shape to the "Empacher" boat except it is slightly deeper in the bow.  Originally the more popular boat for the bigger scullers, but since the development of mould 30 more elite scullers have looked to the 'Ultimate" shape and learnt to scull them  taking  advantage of the more easily driven hull at an international level.

Mould 30

This boat is basically the Heavweight  version of mould 26 and has become the number one choice for Heavyweight  men in the past few seasons. Weight range from 80kg to 100+kg. Only available in Wing Rigger.
