Length-Adjustment System for Sweep and Scull Oars

As of June 1, 2004, Concept2 is producing a new system for adjusting the length of our sweep oars. This system utilizes a bonded composite handle with a structural outside grip that is capable of a five centimetre range of adjustment.

Retrofit Option:

The new length adjustment system can be retrofitted to any older Concept2 adjustable handle oars. This procedure involves permanently bonding in the old adjustable handle and adding the new length adjustment system grip. The retrofit kit comes with complete instructions.

Features:

  • Simple three-step process adjusts oar length.
  • Redundant design for safety: The grip is keyed to the handle to prevent rotation.
  • Continuous choice of settings over the entire five centimetre range. Each turn of the adjusting screw results in a length change of approximately .25 centimetres.
  • Oars are marked at the handle to indicate overall length of the oar in centimetres.
  • Worn grips or damaged parts are easily replaced.
  • Low-stress, wiggle-free connection withstands heavy use and extends the life of the handle.

How it Works:

  • Loosen the clamping screw at the shaft end of the grip. Do not remove it; just loosen it by several turns.
  • Turn the adjusting screw at the very end of the grip until you reach your desired length. Turn clockwise to shorten the oar; counterclockwise to lengthen it. It takes approximately four turns to move a centimetre in length. You can use a cordless drill with a screwdriver bit to speed up the process if you wish.
  • Tighten the clamping screw to lock the handle into position.
