For over 40 years, Sykes Racing have been been building the finest rowing boats available anywhere in the world.  Our quality and designs are second to none and we are proud to be one of the Worlds oldest, continual rowing boat builders.

Here is a brief history of Sykes Racing and the milestones we've had along the way.

1966

Jeff Sykes designs a new revolutionary scull in his quest to become an Australian Sculling Champion

1968

A Sykes pair is used at the Mexico Olympic games

Jeff Sykes and Associates manufacture their first eight

1970

Jeff Sykes and Associates begins manufacturing fiberglass hulls

1971

Jeff Sykes and Associates designs the 'Aussie Rail'

1974

Jeff Sykes and Associates' first World Championship Gold Medal

1975

Move into premises at Riversdale Road, Geelong

1980

The 'Trend 80' is designed, the first rowing boat with a monocoque construction 

1981

Jeff Sykes and Associates introduces the Dreissagacker Oars to Australia

1985

Jeff Sykes and Associates starts experimenting with sandwich core construction

1986

Jeff Sykes and Assoiates introduces the Concept2 Indoor Rower to Australia

1989

Jeff Sykes and Associates begins manufacturing composite rowing shells

1990

The last timber Sykes boat is manufactured 

1992

Sykes Racing expands into the Japanese market

Jeff Sykes and Associates first Olympic Gold Medal

1994

Jeff Sykes and Associates starts manufacturing wing riggers

1996

Sykes best Olympics: 1 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze

Sykes Racing expands into the North American market 

1998

Kevlar and Carbon range of boats using high quality finely woven cloths 

1999

A Quality Assurance program commences to ensure that all Sykes products are of the highest quality

Sykes Racing extend their production facilities 

2002

Precision manufacturing is extended by the introduction of a computer controlled router system

A new dedicated repair facility opens

2004

Tomkins and Ginn win Gold at the Athens Olympic Games in a Sykes Mould 23

Sykes Racing expands into the UK market

2006
