Welcome to the February newsletter from Sykes Racing.  In the lead up to the Championship regattas around the Country, we wish all of our customers the best of luck especially at the Australian Rowing Championships at Lake Barrington.

Sykes Racing sponsors Championship School Sculling Events

Sykes Racing, the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) and the National Talent Identification Development (NTID) Program are joint sponsors of the Schoolboy and Schoolgirl Championship Single Scull at the 2009 Australian Rowing Championships.

Sykes Racing will be presenting a Honeycomb Carbon Single Scull to the school of both the boys and girls event.  We are sure that the single scull will be a great addition to the successful school's fleet.

The aim of this sponsorship is to continue the healthy participation levels in the event and ultimately help to identify young rowers who may go on to represent Australia to win Olympic and World Championship medals by 2016

Recent Boat Developments - Rigger Specificiation

We are often asked by customers about the range of adjustment that we offer on our riggers.  This is often an important consideration for coaches when they try and find the optimum rigging and gearing specification for their crew.

We have recently started using longer rowing pins that will allow for 4cm of height adjustment and a longer rigger block that will enable 5cm of span adjustment.  This is an increase of span adjustment from 3cm and height adjustment of 2.5cm

The increased height range will mean that wing riggers and 3-stay riggers will now have similar movements and the increased span adjustment will provide a greater range of options when reverse rigging 3-stay boats.

If you have any queries regarding rigging specifications, or suggestions about other developments that we should investigate, please contact our office on (03) 5221-3655 or may a suggestion on our website.

Ex-Team Concept2 Oars

We also have a number of sweep oars for sale.  These oars have come back from National Teams and are in good condition.  Please visit our website for information and specifications on oars that are available.

Active Tools Span Gauge

The self-centering span gauge was developed to speed up the process of acurately measuring spans on most types of boats.  A very popular tool for all coaches.

Measuring the spans of a complete eight can now be done in around 2 minutes, accurately and without error as opposed to the time consuming tame measure method.  This is possible because the span gauge is simply placed across the boat, the sliding stop is moved against the side of the boat and the position of the oarlock/swivel is read against the scale on the tool and the scale stays in place while the pin is adjusted.  Mental arithmetic and constant re-checking are no longer required.

To purchase an Active Tools Span Gauge, visit our secure online store or call our office on (03) 5221 3655.
