Mould 847

Sykes Eight Boat Mould 847

Suggested weight range

The M847 has proved to be very successful on the national stage for Schoolgirl First Eights and Year 10 Schoolboy Eights.

Utilising the latest technology and computer programs, enabled us to first test existing successful designs and then optimise the results to set the design criteria for a new hull. Being able to predict form and wave drag at different speeds allowed us to optimise total hull drag for the speed range of schoolgirl crews.

Mould 847's design features a good stability factor, increased stiffness and a number of feature enhancements. The saxboard is lower that the M848 allowing a little more hand clearance and allowance for the use of quick release rigger mounts.

Lowered Saxboard image

Lowered Saxboard

Mould 847 has a saxboard height 30mm lower than the M848 mould. This gives more hand clearance for the generally lower rigged girls crews and allows for our standard wing rigger to be used which in turn enables for the often specified quick release rigger fittings to be used.

Dual Locking Backarm image

Dual Locking Backarm

The new sliding adjustable type back arms have a dual locking system. The 6mm bolt locks the backarm in place via an internal nut. The large ribbed plastic locknut is then tightened against the end of the back arm tube. This gives secondary support and ensures the force is well supported. The adjustment range is 70mm which easily allows for span changes on the rigger.

All Sykes boats come with span/spread measuring tapes applied on the pin block below each oarlock pin.

In the stern-end bulkhead under each seat deck a, is a standard bicycle-sized water bottle holder. Whilst fitted as a standard feature, they add approx. 900grm to the total weight of the hull.
